I Come From is a poem inspired by a poetry workshop with Ruth Stacey, in which a template was featured where every stanza began with I come from.... Many poems following these lines have been written, but what first began as an exercise, developed into a lovingly sad confession and homesick poem about an immigrant who had left bittersweet memories behind. It is extremely introspective, and one of my favourite pieces of mine.
